Safety-Related Vehicle Recall – AMT Automatic Clutch Unit (ACU) for Hino 300 Series Hybrid (HV)

Following the announcement made by Hino Motors, Ltd. in Japan on 21 October 2015, Borneo Motors (Singapore) Pte. Ltd. (BMS) has been notified that the safety-related vehicle recall on AMT Automatic Clutch Unit may involve select Hino 300 Series Hybrid model in Singapore.

This is a proactive measure Hino is taking to ensure the continued safety of our Hino customers.

Inspection &/or replacement of AMT ACU

In the ACU in the transmission of the hybrid trucks equipped with AMT, the water sealing grommets may be deformed and cause water to enter the actuating motors due to incorrect layout of the wires. This may hinder the smooth movement of the brushings causing the warning light to come on, and in the worst case scenario, the brushings may become stuck and the clutch may become inoperable, thereby immobilizing the vehicle.

Reprogramming of ACU ECU

In the ACU in the transmission of the hybrid trucks equipped with AMT, the actuator brushings may wear prematurely if the vehicle is started and stopped frequently due to inadequate programming of the control software. This may cause the warning light to come on, and if continued to be used without reprogramming, the clutch may become inoperable, thereby immobilizing the vehicle.

Under this recall, BMS will inspect and replace, if necessary, the motors installed in the AMT ACU and reprogram the ACU ECU, at no cost.

At the moment, we are still pending further clarifications on the involved Hino 300 Series Hybrid model distributed and sold by BMS. We will contact all affected customers upon verification of actual involved vehicles, and schedule appointments to perform the necessary checks and/or replacement.
